Insurance should cover riot damage

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Small businesses and local car owners were the innocent victims of last night's riot in Oakland.

Protestors damaged about 25 cars. Some were set on fire, others had their windows broken.

Insurance experts we talked to say anyone with comprehensive auto insurance should be covered. Any businesses or home owners who sustained damage in last night's violence should also be covered, as long as their damage exceeds their deductible.

"Most policies will have a laundry list of specific what are called perils, bad things," Amy Bach of United Policy Holders said.

Riots, she says, are covered specifically under the categories of riots, vandalism and malicious mischief.
