United Policyholders

Empowering the Insured

Do you have faith that your insurance company would cover you if you were to suffer a major loss or become seriously ill? Who would you turn to if they didn't?

You and millions of Americans buy auto, homeowners, health, life, disability or/and business insurance -- a piece of paper that makes the simple promise that if you have a loss for which you bought coverage, you will be financially protected. Insurance is a modern day necessity.

But many people learn the hard way that your insurer may be on your side when things are going well and you're making premium payments - but when something bad happens and you come knocking on their door with a large claim - its economics 101: Insurers are in business to maximize profits.

United Policyholders is a non-profit charity that's been helping insurance consumers, big and small, since 1991. We publish reliable, free buying tips and honest, "road-tested" practical claim advice. We host public forums to expose and help solve insurance problems and we fight hard every day for legislative reforms and strong consumer protection laws. Our staff and volunteers are experienced in disaster recovery, the business of insurance, the claim process and the law.

We are a unique, national organization that relies on donations and grants to get our work done. We don't sell insurance, we're not a referral service.
